Who's staying with Pompey? One is - others set to follow suit

After one departure last week and the likelihood of another to come, Pompey's squad perhaps needed a boost - and now it has had one, with news that Kyle Bennett is staying at Fratton Park.

The playmaker, who has scored 13 goals and weighed in with plenty of assists in his 95 games, has signed a new three-year deal.

It comes after Michael Doyle moved to Coventry and Sheffield United lined up a deal for Enda Stevens.

Bennett told the club website: 'My intention has always been to stay at this club and sign a new deal. Having been here for two years now, I feel really settled and comfortable living in the area. It was a good time to get this sorted for me and my family.

'I think that the fans saw more of the real me this season and now I want to kick on as we head into League One. We all knew that promotion was the ultimate — and only — aim. But having played in three different divisions, I can tell you without doubt that the fourth tier is the hardest one to get out of.

'There is a lot more physicality needed, while League One is far more suited to our squad and the way that the gaffer likes us to play.'

Jack Whatmough is also set to stay at Fratton, while the club are talking to other out-of-contract players.

Meanwhile Pompey are working on a new improved deal for Paul Cook to ward off interest from Wigan.
