Pompey only get one bite at the Cherries

Pompey can be happy enough with their latest friendly run-out - against Bournemouth - despite a 2-1 defeat.

It's their first loss since Kenny Jackett took charge but the result won't worry anyone at Fratton too much, any more that will get Eddie Howe and his Cherries too excited befroe their third Premier League campaign.

At an unseasonly rainy Fratton Park, Lys Mousset put Bournemouth ahead as early as the ninth minute following Benik Afobe's set-up.

Brett Pitman looked lively against his former side and Kyle Bennett and Conor Chaplin also caused the Cherries a few nervy moments.

Chaplin levelled it up seven minutes into the second half after his new strike partner Pitman headed a ball straight into his path.

But Howe's team were soon back in front when Afobe went from provider to scorer with a backheeled finish from close range.

Chaplin was closest to a second Pompey equaliser, stirking a post with a fierce low shot, but the Blues couldn't salvage a draw in front of a crowd of 7,182.

Pompey: McGee; Evans, Davies, Burgess, Holmes-Dennis; Bennett, Baker, Rose, Naismith (Lalkovic 69); Pitman; Chaplin. Subs not used: Bass, Talbot, Whatmough, Haunstrup, May, Close, Lowe, Main, Kabamba.
