Feet firmly on floor at Fratton

Kenny Jackett is not the sort to get ahead of himself over the progress his team are making. So it's not surprising you won't hear him talk up the Blues' chances this Saturday - even if they are playing the team at the bottom of the league, Bury.

The Shakers have been decidedly shaky this season, winning only four of 20 league games so far. But Jackett knows any team that are under-estimated in this league have the potential to provide a sting in the tail.

Warming up for Saturday's Fratton clash, Jackett told the Pompey website: 'We never underestimate or overestimate any opposition. That was the case at Charlton and it’s the same on Saturday. You looked at Bury’s recruitment over the summer and it was very good, but for whatever reason it hasn’t quite happened for them.

'They’ve got a new manager now who looks right for their club and I’m sure they’ll come good — it’s our job to make sure that’s not this weekend. We’ll be concentrating on our own game, though, and trying to make sure that we keep moving in the right direction.

'I hope the players can gain confidence from the Charlton result in a positive way, but that can’t be complacency. We’re not winning games by three or four goals and stretching away. We’re getting our noses in front and edging home very well.

'There have been efficient performances and we’re getting those basic things right that help you win matches. Our improvement throughout the season has been consistent and there are a lot of points to play for in the next few weeks, so we want to be as strong as possible.'
