Dead cert for a Pompey home win? No such thing...

The formbook is pointing directly at a home win over Bury for Pompey this weekend - so much so it's tempting to describe it as an away banker.

The Blues are in fine form with six wins from their past seven games while Bury languish in bottom spot. Dangerous statistics where Pompey are concerned, those are.

Skipper and top scorer Brett Pitman alluded to the dangerous nature of thinking a home win is a cert when he spoke about the game and his side's hopes of continuing a run of result that has seen them close in on a place in the top six.

Pitman told the Pompey website: 'The team has evolved and I think our results, performances and number of goals against reflect the work we’ve been doing on the training ground. We’re very organised and have looked dangerous on the counter-attack, so that bodes well for the rest of the season.

'There are probably only a couple of teams — Wigan and Blackburn — that we’ve felt are ahead of us. The rest we’ve deserved to beat, even when we haven’t. I think we should be pushing for a place in the play-offs and so it doesn’t surprise me that we’re up there.

'But any team can beat any other, so just because we’re facing a team at the bottom it doesn’t make it any easier. We do fancy ourselves at Fratton Park, though, and getting the crowd behind us can be a big advantage.'

Pitman sits joint top of the League One scoring charts with 12 although Bury - despite their lowly position - also have a player in the top six, Jermaine Beckford, who has scored nine and will be a threat if he returns to the side after more than a month out injured.
