New man sets Pompey sights high ... midfielder staying put

Promotion is in keeper Craig MacGillivray's sights after he joined Pompey from Shrewsbury and signed a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old will be vying with Luke McGee for the No1 jersey at Fratton and can't wait for the new challenge.

He told the Pompey website: 'This is a massive club and now I’m looking forward to the beginning of pre-season. I can’t thank the gaffer enough for the faith he’s shown in me by bringing me here and it was a move I couldn’t really turn down.

'We played against Pompey when I was at Shrewsbury and the thing that really sticks in my mind is the noise and the sheer scale of the club. The fan-base here is huge.

'When I got the call asking me to sign here, that was all brought back for me and I just couldn’t wait to sign. Hopefully the supporters will take to me and we can build a good relationship because I’ve come here to play games.

'My job is to keep the ball out of the net and so I’ll be looking to keep as many clean sheets as possible. The squad here is very strong for this level and so hopefully we can have a positive season that ends in promotion.'

He was not the only man signing a deal at Pompey. Midfielder Adam May has signed a new two-year deal.

He told the website: "I’m delighted to have signed a new contract with a club that I have been at since a very young age. When you’re young, confidence comes with getting a run of games. That’s what I got last season and it can only make you a better player.'
