Pompey left to wonder as Wanderers hit back for point

Pompey looked like they had ground out win number seven after Brett Pitman's late close-range strike put them 2-1 up against Wycombe - only for Wanderers to nick a point from the spot.

The Blues were in the unusual position of being behind, and conceding in the first half, when Bryn Morris curled a low shot beyond Craig MacGillivray 20 minutes in after Adabayo Akinfenwa teed him up.

It took the Blues almost to the hour to level, the goal coming when a goal kick was helped on by Oli Hawkins for Jamal Lowe to cross for Gareth Evans to head in from a few yards out.

Pitman struck on 86 minutes, heading in another superb Lowe cross, and Fratton Park thought the points were in the bag.

But Joe Jacobson made it 2-2 from the spot three minutes later after Christian Burgess had been harshly judged to have pushed into the back of a Wycombe player near the edge of the box.

It left Pompey down to second, a point behind Peterborough. Pompey: MacGillivray; N Thompson, Burgess, Clarke, Brown; Naylor, Close; Lowe, Evans (Mason 80), Curtis; Hawkins (Pitman 69). Subs not used: McGee, Walkes, Haunstrup, B Thompson, Wheeler

Referee: Craig Hicks

Attendance: 18,648 (749 away fans)
