We're determined to continue this Pompey renaissance

Tom Naylor says the return of Pompey's winning form has given the players new-found belief and determination - and they can't wait for the final five games.

The midfielder has been instrumental in the club's recent form, which has seen them put themselves back in the race for second place and lift the Checkatrade Trophy.

Speaking after the win over Rochdale, Naylor told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'This run we’re on has been brilliant and it means that confidence is sky-high at the moment. We’re going out every week with a determination to win and want to keep playing how we have been recently.

'Every team has a bad spell during the season and we’ve got our one out the way, so we need to smash these last five games. We’ve got attacking threats all over the pitch — you saw Gareth Evans and Omar Bogle come on at the weekend — and have to make the most of them.

Naylor said Rochdale had tested Pompey, especially after half-time when they pulled back the score to 2-1.

He added: 'It was a bit sloppy from us to concede. But we reacted brilliantly to make it 3-1 pretty quickly and then went to get the fourth and make it a really pleasing result for everyone.

'Jamal’s just had a little one, so probably hasn’t got much sleep — fair play for the performance he put in. He showed how good he is.'
