Will Monday prove to be d-day for Pompey and the rest of League One?

We may finally find out on Monday how the League One season will end - and what that will mean for Pompey.

Clubs are due to meet virtually again after failing to reach agreement on Friday, when League Two clubs did decide to give up on hopes of playing the remainder of their season.

Some say the most likely outcome is that they will decide not to play remaining games - apart from play-offs - and to work out a final league table based on points per game. A Pompey-Oxford play-off semi-final is one of the possible outcomes.

Pompey and another five clubs who want the season played to a finish have been criticised for their stance, but CEO Mark Catlin says the Blues are merely reinforcing that the league itself wants to see. Oxford United, Sunderland, Fleetwood, Peterborough and Ipswich are the other clubs to take the same view and go public on it.

Catlin told The News Pompey were adhering to the official line of the EFL. He said: ‘It’s funny to read some comments that the clubs who want to carry on are rebels. We’re not rebels, we loyalists. The EFL line and the FA, government and Premier League lines are we should do all we can to finish the season. All we’ve done is reinforce that.’
