Refwatch Preview: Rotherham v Dale

Saturday's referee for our first League Roses match in a few years is Iain Williamson from Berkshire. As always, TVOS takes a look at his profile as part of our build up.

The Football League have given Iain Williamson a fair trip on Saturday as he travels up the M1 from Berkshire to take charge at Millmoor.

Injuries mean Mr Williamson has only refereed three games so far this term, including Southampton’s Championship fixture with Blackpool and Saturday’s FA Cup tie between Torquay and Brighton.

In the game at Southampton he brought play back for a free-kick to Blackpool when advantage would have seen them score. This led to the following description on an unofficial Blackpool website – Oh Iain Williamson another in a long line of plonkers who don the black outfit and decide to piss me off.’

Iain finished last term as one of the league’s top-rated officials and took charge of the first leg of Oldham’s play-off game with Blackpool (when he presumably didn’t piss off the winning Seasiders’ fans), but his injury problems have seen his progress halted somewhat this season.

This was also the case when Iain joined the referees’ list in 2002. He wasn’t fit for officiating until the end of December, although a few weeks later he was in the middle for Dale’s 1-0 loss at Southend.

He also refereed our 2-1 defeat at Leyton Orient in November 2003, so we are due a win with him in the middle!

Away from refereeing, Mr Williamson does this … http://www.bmsolutions.co.uk/media/spokesp.asp ... if anybody understands it!
