Nine or ten? Which number will Pompey recruit to boost attacking options?

The start of the League One season may be very close but Pompey are still weighing up whether to invest in a new No9 or No10.

It seems like one or the other, with the Blues quite well stocked with attacking players and more in need of new additions at the back.

Assistant-manager Joe Gallen told The News: 'We do feel we have very good attacking players. We have Ellis, John, Ryan Williams, Marcus Harness, Ronan Curtis and Reeco Hackett-Fairchild.

‘At the top end of the pitch, we think we have some very good, athletic players who get goals in League One. It's a good, potent attack with some good subs.

‘There is a decision to be made whether we could do with a third number nine or another number 10. In the number-10 role, we've got Andy Cannon, Gareth Evans. Marcus can also do a job in there.

‘Once the defensive positions are sorted out then maybe we can turn our attention to a forward acquisition.’
