Pompey wait on Covid results as Football League monitors outbreaks

Pompey are waiting to find out if they will need to postpone festive fixtures.

They are waiting for Civd-19 test results having tested the whole playing squad on Monday after Jack Whatmough's positive test at the end of last week.

Two other senior players have already tested positive, although they have not been named by the club.

The News reported today: 'The likelihood remains the Boxing Day clash with Swindon will be postponed, but the situation moving forward is unclear with trips to Bristol Rovers on December 29 and Accrington on January 2. The official announcement over what course of action the club will take could be held over until Wednesday when all the results are returned.'

Numerous other Football League clubs have already had to call off games following positve tests among their squads.

Ipswich have called off two games over Christmas after six people tested positive from their first-team staff, including boss Paul Lambert. Millwall are in a similar situation.

Peterborough, Sunderland and Bristol Rovers have all also called off fixtures after outbreaks but The News said: 'There are currently no plans to suspend the EFL season.

'Sources at the league state they are monitoring the situation at clubs, and may be forced to take action if the intensity of the virus’ spread continues to impact its members. Discussions will be expected to take place between clubs in the coming days, although there are no specially arranged meetings.'
