Pompey plan for Accrington trip - but it could yet be called off

Pompey chief executive Mark Catlin says the club cannot get ahead of themselves in planning to return to action after their Covid-enforced isolation.

The Blues had to call off their Boxing Day clash at home to Swindon and their December 29 visit to Bristol Rovers after five positive test results from people in the first team set-up last week.

As things stand they hope to be back in action at Accrington on Saturday - but Catlin has warned that caution is needed.

Catlin told The News: 'When looking ahead at games we go into the longer term where it’s difficult to comment because things change so quickly. Our current intention is to play Accrington, but a lot can change.

‘People are self-isolating for a reason in this 10-day period. If they start to show symptoms we may have to test again.

'A test gives a snapshot in that moment in time. That person can test again in four or five days and test positive after being negative. It is our intention to play Accrington, but we’ve seen this is a situation which changes daily.’

‘You plan for what’s in front of you and what you know. That’s what we’re doing. As of this moment in time Accrington is on, so we are preparing for that game.’
