Midfield man tells Pompey fans: I'll never be content with what I’m giving

Most would agree Joe Morrell has grown into his Pompey midfield role since arriving on transfer deadline day - but the Wales star says he wants his gradual improvement to continue.

Morrell has impressed in recent games as Pompey have proved inconsistent in League One and he's out to impose himself on clashes with Rotherham on Saturday and Ipswich on Tuesday to help lift Pompey up the table.

He told the club website: 'I don’t want to stand here and say that this is all I’ve got because I’m not someone who will ever be content with what I’m giving. I’m always going to be quite hard on myself and pushing for more, while it was always going to take time because I didn’t really have a pre-season.

'Plus I caught Covid and it took a while to get back from that, but I’m the sort of person who wanted everything yesterday. There were conversations with the gaffer and Nicky, with them saying it wouldn’t come straight away — and they were proved right.

'I said after the Wigan game that there was more to come from me and I think you’ve seen that, but there’s still more I can give. We’ve got a tough schedule coming up, with the likes of Rotherham and Ipswich to come — two sides everyone expects to be near the top of the league.

'But I want to contribute in all aspects of the game and have tried to show that, looking for a platform to drive forward with the ball and offer more in the attacking phase.'
