Win over Derby would make Pompey's Morecambe point seem healthier

Keeper Josh Griffiths says Pompey's point at Morecambe will look much better if the Blues can follow it up with a victory at home to Derby County on Friday ight.

A succession of draws - including in their past three home league games -have left Pompey a little off the pace in the top pack in League One.

One point was a disappointing return at Morecambe last Saturday but all eyes are on one of the season's big home games, as relegated Derby come to town in front of the cameras. And Griffiths says scoring the first goal must be Pompey's opening aim of the night.

Griffiths told the club website of the draw at Morecambe: 'It’s frustrating and we didn’t manage the game well enough, which stopped us from gaining any real momentum. They were able to counter-attack in the second half and it wasn’t really good enough from us overall.

'Sometimes you will take a point when you go away from home, although on this occasion it felt more like a loss. You have a look at every goal you concede and think about whether you could do better, but there hasn’t been much I could do about them lately.

'There are spells in your career where the opposition have one shot and score from them. It’s frustrating and that’s just how football is sometimes. I’m happy on a personal note with my performance, but the team comes first and we’re disappointed with the result.

'Everyone feels a bit deflated and we all have to look at ourselves and work out what we can do better. We need to stop conceding the first goal because it puts you on the back foot and leaves a mountain to climb.

'We have to make sure it’s a better point by getting a win when we face Derby in a difficult game on Friday.'
