'Unbelievable city' - and Pompey new boy is excited to be part of it

Adrian Segecic has explained what drew him to Pompey - and how knowing three existing members of the Blues squad will help him settle in.

The forward joined Pompey last week from Australian A League side Sydney United - John Mousinho's first addition of the summer.

And Segecic revealed Pompey had not been the only club keen to bring him to England.

He told the Pompey club media: 'It’s an unbelievable feeling to be here and to get settled in, so now I just can’t wait to get started. It’s been a big week with getting all the paperwork and flights sorted, then the long journey over, so now I’m happy to be in Portsmouth

'When I learnt that Pompey were interested, I was keen to have a discussion with the gaffer and then I heard about the fans and Fratton Park. There were other clubs that I spoke to, but after chatting with John and Rich there was really no going back.

'I was previously in Holland for a year and it’s much easier coming to England and not having the language barrier, so everything has been smooth. I was expecting it to be dark and gloomy, but I think that I’ve brought the weather over with me from Sydney!

'This is an unbelievable city and the photos don’t do it justice, so I’m keen to get around the place and meet the supporters.'

Segecic knows all about Pompey's other Aussies, Hayden Matthews, Jacob Farrell and Thomas Waddingham - particularly Matthews.

Segečić said: 'Hayden and I had been together for nine years and I’ve been in national teams with the other two boys. I had an unbelievable last season and didn’t expect to play as much as I did, but that’s led me to a club like this.'

Meanwhile Pompey's hopes of another signing - that of centre half Rob Atkinson, who impressed on loan in the second half of last season - appear to be over after he was given a contract extension by Bristol City.
