Town are targeting Luton midfielder Andy Drury, according to rumours circulating amongst Hatters fans during their 2-2 draw with Gateshead at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier this month, Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd dismissed claims that the Sky Blues are set to sign the 27-year-old, who looks destined to make the step up to Championship or League One football this month with Sheffield United also linked.

Drury, who missed today’s match with a hamstring injury amid rumours of a £100,000 switch to Town, began his career with Sittingbourne before joining Gravesend and Northfleet, the club now known as Ebbsfleet, in 2003.

After three years with the Kent club the 5ft 11in tall all-action midfielder or occasional striker moved on to Lewes in 2006 and in 2007/08 helped the Rooks to the Conference South title.

In the summer of 2008 he joined Stevenage and in his first season at Broadhall Way was in the side which won the FA Trophy and reached the Blue Square Bet Premier play-offs.

Last year, Drury and Stevenage finally secured promotion to the Football League, winning the division but losing the final of the FA Trophy to Barrow.

In the summer, Drury eschewed the lure of League Two football to join Luton on a free transfer and has enjoyed a fine half-season with the Hatters, scoring eight goals in 25 games.

After the 3-2 victory over Doncaster, Town boss Paul Jewell said he hoped to make signings this week. With loanees Jack Colback and Jake Livermore gone or imminently going, central midfield looks like an area where the Blues need strengthening, particularly if captain David Norris moves to Portsmouth.

Meanwhile, decathlon legend Daley Thompson has slammed Town chief executive Simon Clegg for his comments regarding the future of the 2012 Olympic stadium earlier in the week: “Simon Clegg left Olympic sport, and he has no credibility in football. To sort that out he's trying to make friends with his new football chums, so he's forgotten all the promises that were made.

“We promised a legacy. We need to be able to stage future World and European athletics championships.”
