tRAMsfer news: Derby Lend To Reds & Waggy Deal Not Dead?
Wednesday, 22nd Jun 2011 14:11 by Daniel J Sewart

Derby is considering loaning Miles Addison to Barnsley now that the talented 22 year old has put pen to paper on a 1 year contract extension. At the same time Nigel may have one last crack at wooing Waghorn.

Sympathy Loan?

Nothing has been finalised but both parties seem close to an agreement after Derby stole the Tykes Captain and player of the year. Perhaps Derby feel the need to help plug the gap at the back for Barnsley -very public spirited to say the least!

On the DCFC official site today Tom Glick suggested the Rams may loan Miles out to get him first team football on a regular basis:

"First and foremost, the new contract sends a message to Miles that he is part of our future. Everyone remembers how well he played in the 2008/09 and 2009/10 season, and because of that he was capped by England's under-21 team.”

"We expect him to get back to that level in time, but we also want him to continue to develop and mature as a player so we will look whether that will be in our first team initially, or out on loan.”

"What we want to do is get Miles playing 23 matches in the first half of the season either here or out on loan."

"His work ethic in getting himself back early from injury has been terrific and he has had no negative consequences because of that. He is fully fit and now just needs to get matches under his belt and get match fit again."

Tom Glick may not have been willing to make a definite statement in regards to the loan but Barnsley manager Keith Hill was quite happy to give his thoughts:

“It looks like Miles is going to join us; the deal would be until December, which is great for Barnsley Football Club.”

Getting games into Addison’s legs to improve his match fitness, form and confidence will be a good move but should the Rams have waited until Shaun Barker is ready to roll?

The Derby Captain will miss the start of the season as he returns from an off-season operation and with him unavailable for selection it is an interesting quandary.

At this point Anderson, Leacock and Buxton would be available to partner the newly signed Shackell in defence but would Addison have been a preferred option over those three?

It is hard to say as all three at their best are more than capable of keeping the seat warm for the Rams skipper but Addison could quite easily be considered better than the trio.

It is important the club gets off to a good start and the selection of the back four will be one of the most important tactical decisions for the opening clash.

Would keeping Addison around for a few extra weeks be of benefit?

It is not for me to decide but as is always the case with football, the question will be answered by results.

Waghorn Chase Not Over?

Various rumours have been circulating that Nigel Clough’s pursuit of Martyn Waghorn may not have come to a halt.

After offers were made and rejected at the end of last season, suggestions are that Derby are preparing one last improved offer to attempt to prise the player from the Foxes grasp.

It is believed the player would like to move on from Leicester (wouldn't they all!) as more movement in the transfer market by Sven, will make it tough for Martyn to find a starting position.

A talented and pacey attacking player, Waghorn is young and ready to take the next step in his career but may feel more at home playing regularly with the Rams instead of competing with Sven's glamour signings.

Whether these rumours grow and bear fruit remains to be seen but it is definitely one signing that many Derby fans would be pleased to see get over the line.

If Nigel can land Waggy - the Rams would suddenly have one of the better attacking line-ups in the league, especially if Nigel can add his much talked about target man to his stable of strikers.

Should the Rams keep Miles on hand till Shaun is fit and would you still like to see Waggy become a Ram?
