Coppinger Looking Forward to Season at Doncaster
Coppinger Looking Forward to Season at Doncaster

Town target James Coppinger says he’s happy at Doncaster and is looking forward to the start of pre-season training at the Keepmoat Stadium. The Blues made a £300,000 offer for the 30-year-old last month with a further bid of £400,000 reported to be in the offing.

However, Coppinger says he’s in no particular hurry to leave the South Yorkshire club: "I'll be reporting to Doncaster on 4th July and I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait to get back and I'm looking forward to next season."

The midfielder, who played alongside Town coach Sean McCarthy at Exeter, was away when Rovers rebuffed the Blues’ offer but talked to chairman John Ryan on his return: "I came back and spoke to the chairman and we left it at that.”

Town manager Paul Jewell said last week that he would continue his pursuit of Coppinger but had decided not to make any further overtures for his Doncaster team-mate Billy Sharp, the subject of a £2.3 million offer made at the same time.

Elsewhere, Brighton manager Gus Poyet is said to have played down yesterday’s reported interest in Town striker Jason Scotland.
