New look Swans face tough cup challenge

Home >Story Index>Macclesfield v Swansea Preview

A new look Swans team will face Macclesfield tomorrow, with manager Colin Addison almost certain to revert to a 3-5-2 formation. With Kris O'Leary suspended and Jason Smith injured, Nick Cusack and Chris Todd look sure to be drafted in alongside Matthew Bound in the vacant central defensive positions.Such is the lack of available defenders, 16 year old Richard Duffy may well find himself sitting on the bench, good luck Richard, he's one for the future I'm sure.

A five man midfield will see the both the Evans' boys in wingback positions due to the suspension of Damian Lacey and the unavailability of Neil Sharp(cup-tied), and with a central partnership of Coates and Phillips, it looks like Addison will play Steve Brodie in a new role behind the front pairing of Mamady Sidibe and John Williams.

All in all, a very different team to the one that took the 3 points at Moss Rose on the opening day of the season. But, as I'm sure you'll remember, both Phillips and Sidibe score in that encounter, so surely thats a good omen?

Of course, both teams have changed managers since the start of the season and I'm sure new Macclesfield boss, David Moss, will be keen to avenge that opening day defeat. Already this week, he's been telling the local Macclesfield papers that he doesn't think they're passage into the 3rd round draw will be too difficult!!!

All signs point to a very close game, with Macclesfield having won they're last 3 games, including a 4-1 victory against Luton Town, but they have also won only one of they're last six home matches, while the Swans have won two out of they're last three away games.

So, can the Swans repeat they're Cup demolition of QPR? The presence of Mamady Sidibe will surely be a deciding factor, and if he can hit the kind of form that destroyed QPR at the Vetch, in front of the Sky cameras, then hopefully we'll all be sitting on the edge of our seats when the 3rd round draw gets underway.

Cardiff at home in the 3rd round anyone?

I'm sure the "North Bank Alliance" would love that!!!
