Former Swansea defender Sam Ricketts says that the Swans could go on a good cup run after their win over Cardiff

Ricketts' Hull team were beaten at the Liberty in the second round of the competition last month and he was present on Tuesday night to witness Jordi Gomez scoring the only goal of the game to defeat Cardiff.

He told the Evening Post

"I don't think anyone will fancy coming down here, Swansea had a good win against Hull and I was impressed with the way they played against Cardiff.Click here!

"They knocked the ball around well, deserved to win and could have done it by a couple more goals.

"If Swansea want to take the competition seriously, I think they could go a long way in it this season.

"You look at what Cardiff did in the FA Cup last season and I don't see any reason why Swansea shouldn't do something similar this year if the draw is kind."

"The Hull lads commented on what a great ground the Liberty is and that sort of thing, but they also said Swansea played some good football and have some good players.

"They were surprised to find out that it was pretty much a reserve side they were up against.

"Swansea are starting to get a good reputation in the game. People are starting to talk about the club and the players down here.

"That's great because it shows the club are doing well, although it can have a downside if clubs start coming in for some of the players."

"Swansea are playing some really good football and have a nice mix with the Spanish lads and people like Garry Monk and Leon Britton, who are the backbone of the side."
