Another interview with a Wednesday fan
Friday, 24th Jan 2014 05:48 by Col

Same questions, but this time to another Sheffield Wednesday fan as part of the build up to this weekend's 4th Round FA Cup tie.

1) Who are you, and how long have you supported Sheffield Wednesday?
I'm mark, a project manager for shopmobility Sheffield. I'm 45 in a months time and my knees creek when i get out of bed in the morning. been a mad Wednesday fan all my life, dad took me to my first game when i was 3 years old, so its his fault!

2) What makes Wednesday different from any other club?
Wednesday is a way of life, its what gets me up in the morning. We are a passionate fanbase, but generally friendly, approachable and will talk about football all day, so i guess in answer to your question, the fans.

3. Best player / manager / Sheffield Wednesday game?
Thats a tough one. During the early 90's we were one of the top six teams in the country and the team was ladened with top class internationals. I cant split 3 players. Chris waddle, David hirst or roland Nillson. Best manager during my life time was big ron, a legend. Best game was obviously beating man utd in the league cup final 1991 closely followed by beating the pigs(sheff utd) at wembley in FA Cup semi final in 1993.

4. Worst player / manager / Sheffield Wednesday game?
the worst manager is difficult to pick as we have had plenty of awful ones to choose from in the last 14 years. for me it has to be the very likable paul jewell. He was totally unprepared for the job and failed miserably. Worst player was a centre half called larry may, i never saw him have one good game. Look in a dictionary for the word, appalling and written underneath is larry may. worst game was in our last season in the premiership, away at derby. We scored twice in the 90th min to lead 3-1 at pride park and somehow managed to concede to goals and draw the game. That was the day we knew we were going down.

5. How's the season going far and does it weight up to expectations?
Our expectations were raised slightly after the second half of last season when we produced promotion form to get out of the mess we were in from the first half. the first 3 months of the season have been hard, but since sacking jones, we are looking much much better, and i expect we will stay up comfortably.

6. Any thoughts on Rochdale, currently or historically?
I have followed your progress over the last 30 years since having an unsuccessful trial with you, but the staff were really friendly and the club took the time to write to me, which i thought was brilliant..i mnice family orientated club.

7. It never seemed to work out for our former striker Chris O'Grady at Wednesday. Why was that?
It was working out just fine for COG until we changed manager. Dave jones just didnt fancy him and he got pushed out. i liked him because he ran his blood to water every game and also scored the winner in the steel city derby!!

8. Now no disrespect meant whatsoever with this question, but from the outset, Wednesday seem a rather old fashioned club in terms of a proper traditional ground, best days were in the past and almost in limbo with a Chairman more interested in selling the club than seeing them succeed. Whilst there's no doubting the size of your fanbase, but can a club like Sheffield Wednesday return to the top table of English football again or has football moved on and left you behind?
No offence taken..i quite like old fashioned, a proper ground, not oan identikit ground. Will we see premier league again, yeah im sure we will, but it may be a few more years yet. talk locally is that a billionaire from canada is keen on buying us so lets see if that develops which may speed up our return to the top table.

9) Any predictions for the game?
I hate predicting Wednesday games, they let me down too much to have any confidence in expecting a win. Hoping we dont lose, so going for 1-1 and a replay.
