Lee Camp's time at Loftus Road seemed to be drawing to a close as the 2008/09 season came to an end. The young goalkeeper had lost the number one spot to new signing Radek Cerny in August 2008 on the say so of owner Flavio Briatore despite manager of the time Iain Dowie preferring Camp. Cerny excelled between the sticks while Camp enjoyed a duccessful loan spell at Nottingham Forest where he won them crucial points in their relegation battle with last minute penalty saves at Derby and Bristol City.

Forest seemed keen on a permanent move but Camp returned to Rangers and played five games in January when Radek Cerny picked up a hamstring injury - incurring the wrath of the QPR fans in a 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest with a poor performance and period of fraternising with the home fans. Camp was taken out of the team again after that and one of the first jobs facing new manager Jim Magilton was whether or not to sell Camp to Forest with a deal worth up to £200k on the table.

Camp finally signed permanently for Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2007 after two seperate loan spells and countless attempts to nail him down over several years and numerous different managers at Loftus Road.

He played a massive part in keeping Rangers in the Championship in a loan spell at the end of the 06/07 season, making 11 appearances and keeping four clean sheets. John Gregory named him as his top transfer target for last summer and succeeded with little over a week to spare - spending around £300k to secure Camp's signature from Derby.

Camp spent the first half of last season keeping the scores down behind an abysmal QPR side and only he and Martin Rowlands from that side featured regularly once the new signings started to arrive in January. Apart from a crazy afternoon at Norwich Camp was superb all season as QPR's only ever present and was unlucky to lose out to Rowlands in the Player of the Year awards at the end of the campaign.

The England Under 21 international came up through the ranks at Pride Park but made his first appearance in professional football while on loan at nearby Burton Albion. He came to QPR fans' attention when he was secured as an eleventh hour loan ahead of a game at Hartlepool in 2003/04 when Rangers were without both Chris Day and Nick Culkin through injury. Camp joined his new side on loan just hours before the kick off and made a string of fine saves at Victoria Park as the R's won 4-1.

Camp subsequently played a huge part in our promotion season, making some outstanding displays in his 12 appearances for the Superhoops. Despite our best efforts to sign him for the Championship campaign, he returned to Derby and who made him their first choice keeper the following year. He went on to win their Young Player of the Year award but when George Burley left as manager to be replaced by Phil Brown Camp soon fell out of favour after an argument over goalkeeping coaching at the club, and Brown's preference for 42 year old Kevin Poole, escalated into a row on a radio phone in show.

Things didn't improve for Camp when Brown was replaced by Billy Davies either. Davies preferred the keeper he'd bought, Stephen Bywater, to Lee and he spent time on loan at Norwich City in search of first team football. Derby won promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 2006/07 season with Camp on the bench in the play off final. When Davies added Ipswich's Lewis Price to his squad ahead of the top flight campaign the writing was on the wall and Camp was grateful of the chance of a number one slot back at QPR for a third spell - this time permanently.
