QPR's goalkeeping cover in 2009/10 will be provided by highly rated youth team stopper Elvijs Putnins following the departures of Lee Camp and Jake Cole during the summer.

Latvian youngster Putnins joined QPR from the youth set up at Auda Riga in his homeland. While yet to make his senior first team debut he has impressed supporters with his performances in the QPR youth and reserves culminating in him being named man of the tournament at the Trofeo Sardegno in Sardinia in January 2009. QPR won that tournament and Putnins shone in two penalty shoot outs against 1860 Munich and Cagliari. Made first team appearances in the pre-season campaign of 2009 but dropped down the pecking order following the arrival of Tom Heaton on loan from Man Utd. Was named in the Latvia Under 19 squad for the baltic Cup against Lithuania and Estonia in May 2009.
