Bertrand Only Injury Doubt After The International Break.
Thursday, 31st Mar 2016 11:33

Ryan Bertrand appears to be the only Saints casualty as the squad starts to re assemble after the week of International fixtures.

Ryan Bertrand appears to be the only player returning from International duty with a knock which will be good news for Ronald Koeman who could also see his squad increase from the Liverpool game by the return of Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez to the fold.

However although little has been said about the injury that forced Bertrand to pull out of the England squad almost as soon as he had joined it and it is hoped that given that he sustained it in the win against Liverpool and was fit enough to join up with England in the first place that he will now have recovered sufficiently to play against Leicester City.

He will have had well over a week of treatment at St Mary's due to the fact that he was allowed home from the squad and did not travel to Germany and hopefully this time has been used well.

If he does make the cut then Ronald Koeman will have a squad almost back to full fitness and strength, if he doesn't then he has to consider his options including playing Matt Targett in the position.

Given the pace that Leicester City have Saints would prefer to have Bertrand in to utilise his pace . the Foxes like Liverpool are a team who are at their best by breaking quickly and with ruthless efficiency and Saints have to make sure they do not leave themselves wide open as they did in the first hour against the Merseysiders.

Bertrand's inclusion is essential against Leicester. Neither Yoshida nor Targett, despite their varying talents, have the pace to keep Vardy and Co. at bay.
I wonder what the situation is with Gardos? He was quite speedy during the few times we saw him.
