Leicester City V Southampton - Dan's Preview
Thursday, 31st Mar 2016 21:37 by Dan

We have a new face on the home page, here our new writer Dan takes a look at the forthcoming game at the King Power Stadium.

Anyone who is a fan of football or isn’t will be familiar with the unpredictable story of Leicester City being top of the Barclays Premier League. With seven games left of the campaign, the Foxes find themselves top of the table and five points clear of 2nd place Tottenham.

Leicester have only lost three matches this season and have been consistent throughout the campaign, unlike Southampton who have had an up and down season.

Before the return of goalkeeper, Fraser Forster the Saints’ season was very up and down. The start wasn’t fantastic with the disappointing Europa League exit and picking up 2 points from a possible 9 in the first three fixtures.

But getting to the quarter-final of the League Cup, a fantastic result against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and being five points off the top spot in the beginning of November, Southampton were looking very likely to qualify for Europe.

But consistent losses in December gave Southampton’s season not much to look forward to.

Now, after another rocky period that lasted three games, two wins in a row against fellow teams seeking European football next season, the Saints are only three points off of the top six.

They are also in great goal-scoring form with five in two plus the possible returns of strikers Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez on Sunday’s trip to the King Power Stadium.

The previous fixture between the Saints and the Foxes at St.Mary’s finished 2-2. Two first half goals from corners scored by skipper, Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk gave Southampton a two goal lead, but two second half goals from Jamie Vardy meant the points were shared that day.

Southampton need to win this game more than Leicester as the Foxes will still be top of the league if they lose on Sunday and when it comes to must-win games we’ve had great results most of the time especially in the last two games.

This is a must-win game for us as a loss could put us in a difficult position if we are to qualify for Europe with Stoke only one point behind us and Manchester United three ahead.

Leicester have drawn with smaller teams like West Brom and Aston Villa whereas their best performances were against the big-dogs of the league. Also four of the Foxes last six results have ended in 1-0 wins meaning they’re not scoring many but are hard to score against.

On our day our defence is solid, especially after six consecutive clean-sheets. Our goal-scoring has been fantastic in the last couple of games with under-performing strikers back on the score-sheet.

If Leicester aren’t scoring to often then we could attempt a clean sheet.

I’m backing a 1-2 win for Southampton due to our recent goal scoring being able to beat a solid Leicester team and a win against the unbeatable Leicester City will give everyone involved with Southampton FC a huge boost to push on for Europe.

Team News:

Predicted Saints Line-Up: Forster, Cedric, Fonte, van Dijk, Targett, Davis, Clasie, Wanyama, Long, Pellé, Mané

Bertrand had to leave international duty early after receiving a knock from the Liverpool game so he’s likely to be replaced by Matt Targett. Martina needed game time but hasn’t done anything right in my opinion so Cedric must come back into the team. Wanyama and Mane changed the whole game against Liverpool and must start.
