Chaplin doesn't know whether to be happy or sad

There were mixed feelings in the Pompey camp after the 1-1 draw at Barnet, according to scorer Conor Chaplin.

He was delighted to have rescued a point with a fine strike - but said the team were disappointed they had not recorded their third win in a week.

Chaplin told the Pompey website: 'I scored a goal at the end, although it still feels a bit disappointing because I thought that the three points were there to take for us. But the lads have to try to be upbeat because we’ve still taken seven out of nine in the past week.”

Chaplin said of his goal: 'I know I hit it well — it felt nice as it came off my boot. But I didn’t see the ball travel because I fell as I struck it and there was also a defender in front of me. I just knew that it went in because I heard the crowd.

'The fans were ridiculous. We had more than the home side and I would have hated to send them home unhappy. It was on my weaker foot, but I still fancy myself with the right foot. Thankfully it came off and it got us a point.'

Pompey are next in action next Saturday with a six-pointer at Carlisle.
