Top three spot is the perfect incentive for Pompey
Friday, 3rd Mar 2017 21:51 by pompey-fans.com staff

Another game, another chance to break into the top three. Haven't we been here before?

Pompey host Crewe on Saturday knowing a victory, coupled with Carlisle's failure to beat Plymouth, would put the Blues in third spot.

They go into the weekend two points behind Carlisle and six behind Plymouth.

But Paul Cook's team know they will need to go one better than they did against Morecambe, when they dominated but ended up with just a point after conceding a late equaliser.

Paul Cook feels the fact that Pompey's fate is effectively in their own hands is a big factor and is looking forward to what is certain to be an exciting run-in.

He told The News: ‘At the end of the day, if we do everything right between now and the end of the season we will be promoted. Now’s the time where we need to stay positive.

‘There will be a disappointing result in there, it’s just when. Every team will have it. It’s just about how to react. I can’t stop other teams results. No-one can. I think if you look around the league at the moment, Exeter and Luton will genuinely believe they can go up.

‘I believe they can — but it’s about ourselves and what we can do. As Portsmouth Football Club I wouldn’t swap this group and I wouldn’t swap this support for anyone’s. We’re alright. We’re happy with the squad. Our support has a massive part to play.

‘I’ve been on these run-in before. It’s all about getting your result by being as positive as you can. Win your game. If we win our game Saturday everything will be well. Let’s control what we can control.’

There are no new injury problems for Cook and if recent trends are anything to go by there won't be many - if any - changes to the Blues line-up.
