Kenny Jackett has wasted no time in outlining his Pompey priorities after being named as Paul Cook's successor - and putting pressure on the club's academy to produce first team players is one of them.

The former Watford, Swansea, Millwall and Wolves boss is a populat choice as the new Fratton Park supremo and has impressed with his early thoughts on the job.

Jackett told the club website: 'I want to bring success to the club and build on what was achieved last season. The players are stepping up a level and will all be hungry to prove themselves in a higher division.

'I feel capable of responding to that and it really is a very exciting challenge for me. This is a fantastic club with a rich history, so I’m looking forward to pre-season and proving myself at Pompey.

'I want to play entertaining, exciting, attacking football. That’s always the aim and it’s something that’s expected when you’re at a big club. I’m very proud to be here and it’s up to me, the coaching staff and players to provide something that the fans can react to.

'They need to see passion, quality, energy and enthusiasm and that can help generate a fantastic atmosphere.'

Jackett led Millwall and Wolves to promotion from League One and he told the site: 'That experience gives me confidence, but I have to work with the players and bring out the best in them.

'A few gaps have appeared in the squad, so we have to make sure we’re strong and ready for when August 5 comes around. We’ll need to improve this summer, but I want to maximise the potential that’s already in this squad.

'I want to work with the academy and put pressure on them to produce the calibre of players who can be successful in our first team.'
