Pompey's ever-changing pre-season plans: are they now complete?
Monday, 19th Jun 2017 22:16 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey have finalised a trimmed-down programme of friendlies after making changes to the list initially drawn up when Paul Cook was still in charge.

Gone are visits to Bognor and Sutton and a home friendly with Cardiff - who the Blues are now facing in the League Cup - but into the schedule come games for a Pompey XI at Newport IOW and a game away to Crawley.

They will visit Newport on Tuesday, July 18, at 7pm, their first visit there for a number of years. That is on the day they had planned to send an XI to face Bognor, but the Rocks did not want to play a lesser squad than the first-team line-up that had visited Nyewood Lane for the past four years.

The planned visit to Sutton has gone the same way as the Bognor trip.

Also off is a game at Cardiff, that falling victim to the fact the sides will now meet in the League Cup in early August.

But on the day set aside for that, July 29, Pompey will now go to Crawley, their former League Two rivals.

Other fixtures that stand are a Pompey XI's visit to Salisbury on July 1, a game at Havant and Waterlooville on July 8, a visit to Eastleigh on July 15 and a home game with Bournemouth on July 22.

It seems Kenny Jackett is happier with fewer fixtures than had been pencilled in, with the new boss happy to do the lion's share of the work with his squad on the training ground.

Their League One programme starts on August 5 - with the league fixtures due to be published this Wednesday.
