Blackstock surprised, Helguson injured, Buzsaky ready for return – news round up
Blackstock surprised, Helguson injured, Buzsaky ready for return – news round up
Tuesday, 31st Mar 2009 08:55

The decision to allow Dexter Blackstock to join Nottingham Forest has come as a surprise to the player himself, especially with the news that Heidar Helguson may now be out for the rest of the season. Meanwhile there's good news for Akos Buzsaky.

QPR have little to play for over the next six games but with the new board at Loftus Road somewhat trigger happy the logic of leaving the team to go through six tough looking games with only Sam Di Carmine and Angelo Balanta as fully fit strikers is subject to widespread debate.

On Monday Blackstock spoke for the first time since moving north. Blackstock told the Forest official website: “I'm just happy to be given the opportunity to come here, play games and hopefully play my part in what is such a vital time for the club. It's purely a loan move at the moment. There has been speculation about it being made permanent but everyone will have to take a look at that again in the summer. I was a little bit surprised that Rangers allowed me to come out on loan, particularly with Heidar Helguson being out injured, but I am very happy to be at Forest and want to do my very best for them.”

There seems to be some confusion over the last line of that quote with Teamtalk and other agencies reporting Blackstock as saying “particularly with Heidar Helguson out injured for the season”. That rumour has gathered speed in recent days and with several papers reporting Helguson has withdrawn from the Iceland squad ahead of their Wednesday night game with Scotland because of injury. The former Watford man has endured a tough start to life at QPR with missed chances and injuries badly affecting his time here so far.

Somebody who is definitely out for the rest of this season is Akos Buzsaky who ruptured knee ligaments at Man Utd in the Carling Cup in November. The Hungarian has told QPR World this week that he is hoping to be fully fit for the first game of next season though.

Buzsaky said: “If everything is alright then in two months time I am going to be fully fit so I’ll be looking to be back in full training at the end of May. I know the boys will be having holiday but I am going to train the whole summer so if I can train through June I am going to be fit for the beginning of July for the pre-season.

“I’ve never had a knee problem before and this was so unfortunate but that’s life. I want to make sure the knee is going to be fine, the muscle groups around the knee are going to be strong and then I can be back. I’m watching all the home games and all the training and I am really impressed with how Paulo manages the team and I think you can see in the games that we play better and we work together. I just want to be back fit again and give my best for the club.”

Elsewhere among our internationals at the weekend Kaspars Gorkss played a full 90 minutes for Latvia as they beat Luxembourg 4-0. Damien Delaney was an unused substitute for the Republic of Ireland as they drew 1-1 at home to Bulgaria.

The rumour mill this week has QPR linked with arch foe Dele Adebola. The Bristol City front man actually managed to make it through 90 minutes against QPR at the weekend without scoring a goal which, having scored against us for Crewe, Birmingham, Coventry and City, made a refreshing change. The 34 year old is out of contract this summer with Rangers, Sheff Utd and and Sheff Wed all monitoring the situation according to Sky Sports.

The Mirror is also today reporting that QPR will demote Paulo Sousa to a pure coaching role over the summer with a more experienced Director of Football or manager coming in over his head. It remains to be seen if that's usual Mirror nonsense or not.

In former QPR news Simon Walton has been speaking about his loan deadline day move from one relegation threatened side, Plymouth, to another, Blackpool. That Argyle were willing to loan somebody who could become their record signing if clauses kick in to a team competing with them at the bottom of the table shows how dramatically Walton’s stock has fallen since he moved to Home Park. Poor performances at the start of the season and then a foolish sending off in a crucial game at Barnsley have ruined his relationship with manager Paul Sturrock.

Walton told the Plymouth Herald: “With Blackpool, I suppose the shop window scenario kicks in but I have made it clear that I'm not looking to move anywhere. My family are here and I want to continue playing here. I'd like to think that I've still got a future at Plymouth, but this was a chance to play some football. I wouldn't say I've wasted my time at Plymouth, though I probably haven't made the best of it. It's been a good experience and it's made me stronger as a person. Everyone has an off season, whether it's due to injury or loss of form, although obviously, this season is not one I'd like to be remembered for. But I'm here at Home Park on a three-year contract, and there's still two of them left. Surely the next two can't be as bad as this one.”

In off the pitch news it seems the planned meeting between supporter representatives and the club planned for tomorrow, April 1, is now under threat as Amit Bhatia can no longer attend. Mr Bhatia is away on business. Considering the previous discussions held by ‘One QPR’ and the club about season ticket prices, and the somewhat disappointing subsequent announcement by the club, this is a disappointing turn of events to say the least. Hopefully it will be possible to reschedule if it does not go ahead.

Finally Keiron St Aimee continues to sink through the leagues. He was released by St Albans for not turning up for training and is now turning out for Thurrock.
