Can Pompey be a team who DO win things with kids?
Saturday, 24th Jun 2017 14:57 by pompey-fans.com staff

It was Alan Hansen who famously said 'You can't win anything with kids' A few teams have proved him wrong since.

And if you're a 'kid' at Pompey, you must be encouraged by the noises being made by the new Fratton management team.

Kenny Jackett has already spoken of his desire to give the younger members of his Blues squad every chance to impress and now No2 Joe Gallen has issued the message that if you're good enough, you're old enough - age does not matter.

He told The News today: ‘If you look in forward areas there is quite a lot of experience. If you look at Gary Roberts and Carl Baker, their ages and the amount of games they’ve played, it’s there.

‘But there’s no problem with having young players. If they are good enough then great. If young players aren’t good enough, that’s where the problem will be. There’s no problem if they are good enough. If they are good enough, that’s fine.

‘We had a young team at Wolves. Everyone said we wouldn’t be able to do it — but it was record points. They were good enough, though. That’s the thing.

‘It’s not their age. It’s whether they are good enough or not. ‘If they are good enough to step up, play, play well and be successful — great. ‘If they are good enough the age is irrelevant.’
