Forgotten player is out to take his Pompey chance
Tuesday, 4th Jul 2017 23:17 by pompey-fans.com staff

Winger Milan Lalkovic says he has to be ready to grasp a Pompey opportunity if it comes his way undr Kenny Jackett.

One of last season's forgotten men is suddenly back on the scene and made a scoring start to pre-season at Salisbury as the Blues won 3-0 in their first friendly.

Afterwards he told the Pompey website: “We have a new manager here, so everything is open. I just have to work hard, get fit and then see what happens. You always have to do your best, keep improving and be ready to take your opportunities, otherwise someone else will.'

Lalkovic was pleased with Pompey's start to their pre-season programme, adding: 'We’d only been back for two days, so it’s a bit earlier than I’m used to. But I always like playing more than training and it was good that all of the boys were able to get 45 minutes.

'It was a good work-out and we won the game — last year we only drew here — so that’s always a positive thing. I was really tired out there, but it’s always easier going forward than when you have to run back and cover.'

Lalkovic spent the latter part of last season on loan at Ross County as Kyle Bennett and Kal Naismith stayed ahead of him in the Pompey pecking order.
