Jackett aims to carry on his project on TV

Kenny Jackett is looking forward to taking on one of his former clubs when Rotherham visit on Sunday - but the Millers are not a club you will find him talking much about in the lead-up to the televised League One clash.

Jackett was only at Rotherham for around six weeks and it is not a club anyone thinks of when consdering the successes he has had as a boss.

As he prepared to welcome Rotherham to Fratton Park, the Pompey boss told the club website: 'It (his Rotherham stay) was a brief stint. I read the situation wrong and obviously it closed rather quickly, but sometimes it’s the best thing for everyone.

'I’ve moved on to Pompey and it’s a job that I’m committed to. I’m working hard to make sure we build a successful team that can be strong in League One. We’re looking forward to the game on Sunday and it should be a good occasion in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

'Rotherham have come down from the Championship and have had quite a high turnover of players since the summer. But there are some big threats in their side and some of their results so far have been a bit unlucky.

'It’s still very early days and I’m sure they’ll be working hard to get the right equation and find the best team.'

Pompey have four new deadline-day additions they could field - with new boys Damien McCrory, Stuart O’Keefe, Matty Kennedy and Oliver Hawkins adding strength in depth throughout the squad.

The bench would appear the most likely spot for them in this, their first games at the club, but Jackett has not been afraid to make unexpected changes to his side week to week as he tries to find his strongest line-up.

Gareth Evans is suspended after his red card at Wigan last week, but Nathan Thompson is fit to come into his place. Central defender Matt Clarke may also feature.

The Millers arrive at Pompey with something in common with the Blues - they have won only one of their opening four league games. But Pompey's two draws, in their last two, put them two points ahead of them in the bottom half of the table.

A home win on Sunday would increase the gap and give Pompey a very solid first month of the season.
