Bone Idle Gossip: Last chance to vote for a Blues big occasion
Monday, 9th Oct 2017 21:47 by Steve Bone
I’m nearing the end of the voting period for my first unofficial and unscientific readers’ Pompey poll of the season and it’s shaping up for a close finish.
There’ll be no Catalonia-style landslide-winning camp involved in these results – although, as in the southern Spain referendum, one of Europe’s top teams could get a mention.
No, this’ll be a Brexit-style close finish that will cause arguments to rage and recounts to be demanded for years to come. Possibly.
This, if I’ve lost you, is the vote for your favourite ‘Pompey big occasion’ – with all Wembley appearances, single games that have secured a title, promotion or relegation, or the AC Milan game the matches which are eligible.
It’s the other side of a coin tossed last season when I asked for your favourite Pompey game of all those not including the above (won. for those who weren’t paying attention) by a certain 4-1 win over a certain team from up the road that pretty much kept Pompey up and condemned them to going down.
Of votes cast so far in the big-game stakes, 11 different tussles have had Xs put in their boxes.
Those of you who’ve not already got involved can be excused your tardiness and can vote at any time in the next two weeks. October 21 is when the polls close.
Results will be announced in my Sports Mail and Pompey programme column a week later when we play Bradford – who, coincidentally, were the opposition (in 1998) for one of the matches in the list.
Email email@example.com or tweet @stevebone1 with your vote.
Three games lead the way – but plenty have yet to get a single mention.
