Jackett is not thinking about Wales - only Pompey
Thursday, 12th Oct 2017 18:13 by pompey-fans.com staff

Pompey fans know better than most that when a manager says he has no plans to take a different job, it does not necessarily mean he won't.

Anyone remember Harry Redknapp and Paul Cook speaking about such matters?

But in Kenny Jackett's case, it does not look like he will be making an early exit from Fratton Park to take up the Wales job if it becomes available.

Jackett insists Pompey is all he is thinking about and he expects Chris Coleman to stay to try to get Wales to another Euro finals after their failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Asked by The News for his thoughts on being made one of the favourites for the Wales role in the event of it becoming available he said: ‘I wasn’t aware of that, I think Chris will probably stay, won’t he?

‘He’s done a great job and been very unlucky not to qualify and got the side very competitive. I would think he probably produced the best tournament in Wales’ history at the Euros. It’s not my job to discuss Chris Coleman’s future, but he has done a very, very good job for the country.

‘International management is not something I have particularly thought about to be honest with you, but we will see. Really, club management for Portsmouth is my thinking. The international stage is an interesting one. Club management is great, while international management is slightly different.'
