Pompey are into the last 32 of the Football League Trophy after Curtis Main's goal gave a much-changed team a 1-0 victory at Charlton.

Two of Pompey's forgotten men, Milan Lalkovic and Kal Naismith, combined to set up Main for slide in and score in the 19th minute in front of a crowd of just over 1,300 at The Valley.

Pompey had the best of the rest of the first half chances although one Charlton chance almost went in off Adam May.

In the second half ex- Blues winger Ricky Holmes came on for Charlton but the Blues held on for a win which sees them finish top of their group and into the knockout stages of the competition.

And whatever you think about it, in fact whether you care about it or not, that leaves Pompey four games from Wembley.

Pompey: McGee; Evans, Hawkins, Thompson, Donohue; May, Rose; Lalkovic (Kennedy 58), Chaplin (O’Keefe 86), Naismith; Main (Lowe 58). Subs not used: Bass, Burgess, Haunstrup, Oxlade-Chamberlain

Referee: Nicholas Kinseley

Attendance: 1,307 (206 Pompey fans)
