Mid-table battle is an intriguing one for Blues and Tangerines

It's a month since Pompey won a League One game, a statistic they hope to put right at Blackpool this weekend.

A home win over MK Dons, their second straight league win, has been followed by three league defeats and now one in the FA Cup.

But a victory at Charlton has lifted spirits and Kenny Jackett feels the Tangerines could post a similar threat to the one his team encountered at The Valley.

Both sides have won six games so far and that puts them either side of 12th place in the table, with Blackpool the higher-placed of the two.

One man hoping to be involved at Bloomfield Road is striker Curtis Main, scorer of the only goal at Charlton on Tuesday. He told the club website: 'Hopefully my performances in the matches I have been involved in can help towards getting even more time.

'Whether it’s starting or coming off the bench doesn’t really matter — I feel fit and will be ready to take my chance. I’m hoping now that all the injury stuff is behind me and I can be fully focused on letting my football do the talking.

'I’ve no doubt that the fans will see what I’m really about if I get in the team because they’ve only really seen glimpses so far. If I can get a consistent run of games for Pompey then I am confident that the performances will follow.

'But the team is full of quality and there is a lot of competition for places. There can only be 11 on the pitch, so it’s up to all of us to do as much as we can to warrant being out there.'

Jackett has Brett Pitman available again although Milan Lalkovic is crocked. Nathan Thompson and Stuart O'Keefe are both suspended, with Gareth Evans and Danny Rose tipped by some to fill in for the duo.

It's 25 years since Pompey won at Blackpool. That was a 4-0 League Cup win in Jim Smith's reign but in fairness they have not had too many trips to the seaside resort since then.
