Lowe blow isn't enough for full Pompey points Saturday, 13th Jan 2018 21:56 by pompey-fans.com staff Jamal Lowe's goal was not enough to earn Pompey the points against play-off rivals Scunthorpe at Fratton Park after the visitors hit back to give the Blues their first draw for five months. In a new-look Pompey team that had a back three and Nathan Thompson in midfield, it was one of those games of two halves. Pompey bossed the first but The Iron came on strong after the interval. Lowe put Pompey ahead on the quarter-hour, robbing defender Josh Morris and surging on to fire from a tight angle past keeper Rory Watson. Brett Pitman and Kal Naismith, both restored to the starting line-up, both went close to adding a second but Scunthorpe had their moments too and Kenny Jackett must have been content to be 1-0 up at the break. But the second half was a different story and Kevin Van Keen levelled eight minutes in after controlling a pass from Tom Hopper and finishing well on the turn. New man Connor Ronan had a fine game but was sacrificed late on as Jackett made changes to try to stop Scunthorpe controlling things. Matt Kennedy and Adam May came on for Ronan and Dion Donohue. The best late chance fell to Pompey but Naismith's shot was well stopped by Watosn and in the end neither side was too unhappy with a point. Next up for Pompey is a trip to Rotherham. Pompey: McGee; Hawkins, Burgess, Clarke; Lowe, Close, Thompson, Donohue (May 71); Ronan (Kennedy 71); Pitman, Naismith. Subs not used: Bass, Casey, Deslandes, Bennett, Chaplin Referee: Charles Breakspear Attendance: 17,741 (386 away fans)
