Is Bennett the new Holmes where Pompey fans are concerned?

It seems to me that Kyle Bennett is the new Ricky Holmes.
Anyone who dared say they were disappointed to see Bennett leave on transfer deadline night ran into claims that he was never good enough and Pompey were clearly right to let him go.
It was similar when Holmes left. As with Bennett, I liked Holmes and felt there was always hope of a goal or at least a chance when he was on the ball.
But it seems a lot of Blues fans have short memories.
Those happy to see Bennett off the premises without knowing how his portion of the wage budget would be spent, or on whom, have quickly forgotten the massive part he played in promotion and the title win last term.
Mind you, some probably think we won that despite Bennett not partly because of him – just like they do where Paul Cook is concerned.
I’d also point out that Bennett didn’t have a bad 2015-16 season, either.
Holmes was similarly consigned briskly to the history books when he moved on. How quickly some forgot he’d been player of the season in the 2013-14 campaign.
If I were a footballer, I’m not sure I’d want to play for Pompey (in the unlikely event they wanted me).
Or maybe it’s not just Blues fans – perhaps supporters of all clubs are just as unforgiving.
But to those who wanted more from Bennett, and Holmes before then, I say this: Remember we are in the third (and, until very recently, the fourth) tier.
A player of Bennett’s obvious talent whose end product was more consistent would not have been playing for us for the past two-and-a-half years.
