Pompey looking upwards as they head north
Saturday, 17th Mar 2018 09:17 by pompey-fans.com staff

Most Pompey fans have given up hope of a top-six finish - but boss Kenny Jackett wants the trip to Oldham to begin a strong end to the season for his team so they can finish as high as possible.

He is encouraged by recent away victories at MK Dons and Fleetwood but knows the Blues will need a cracking run to claim a play-off spot.

Pompey go to Boundary Park with Brett Pitman fit again and likely to lead the line.

Jackett told the Pompey website he expected a tough test at Oldham: 'There are a lot of sides fighting now to pull out of and away from the bottom four. Any game in this division is a difficult one and Oldham are quite strong with their full squad available.

'They’ve lost players for whatever reason during the course of the season, but we saw at Fratton Park that they have a strong team. The most important thing is how we do and our form away from home has been quite good of late, with wins at MK Dons and Fleetwood.

'We’ll have to be at our very best and focus on the good parts of our performance against Gillingham last week, while eradicating the poor bits. I’ve spoken in recent weeks about the top six, but being realistic we need a high numbers of wins.

'We’re going into the last 10 games and if it’s not to be, then we’re determined to finish this season as strong as we possibly can to build confidence.'
