Move over Pompey Sailor... now we've got Pompey Naylor
Friday, 8th Jun 2018 19:36 by pompey-fans.com staff

And then there were four... Pompey swelled their new-boy ranks with another signing when they landed midfielder Tom Naylor from Burton.

The 26-year-old, who can also play in defence, joins Ronan Curtis, Louis Dennis and Craig MacGillivray in having joined the Blues since the end of the season.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett was delighted by the latest bit of business and told the club website: 'It strengthens the spine of our side, while he also brings us recent Championship experience. Tom’s a ball-winner and I feel that he’ll complement the other talented players we already have at this club.

'He’s someone who can play in a variety of positions, although he’s primarily been brought in as a defensive midfielder. We do feel that the squad is being improved this summer and we’re getting to where we want to be.'

Naylor told the website: 'It’s a massive move and as soon as I heard of Pompey’s interest, I wanted to speak to them as soon as possible. I’ve had some good times at Burton — winning back-to-back promotions and staying up in our first year in the Championship.

'But this is a huge club and I think that we’ve got a chance of going up and then you never know what can happen. I’m going to first focus on pre-season and then League One, so I’m really looking forward to meeting the lads and getting started.

'I like to sit in that holding role and try to break things up, get the ball down and play — and also get the odd goal as well.'
