Forget where Wycombe are - Pompey boss is wary
Thursday, 20th Sep 2018 20:45 by pompey-fans.com staff

Shrewsbury showed Pompey a team's position in the table - at least this early in the season - does not count for much in the Blues' last home game.

The lowly Shrews pushed high-flying Pompey all the way and were perhaps a little unfortunate not to leave Fratton with all three points.

Now it's 16th-placed Wycombe's turn to try their luck in front of another big Fratton crowd - and Pompey boss Kenny Jackett is wary.

He told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'There are many different games in a very good and competitive League One and you have to earn every point. We’ve seen in recent weeks that it doesn’t matter where your opponents are in the table — whether that’s Shrewsbury who were struggling or Peterborough who were top of the table.

'There will be different types of matches and we’re under no illusions as to the task that lies ahead for us. But our points total from the opening eight fixtures is a positive and we’re pleased with that, so we’ll be looking to continue our good form.

'We have to get our tactics right as much as possible and use our substitutions, while the players have to make the right decisions.'

Jackett said Ronan Curtis, Anton Walkes and Jack Whatmough should all be fit to face Gareth Ainsowrth's side.
