I want my Fratton starting spot back
Monday, 8th Oct 2018 22:13 by pompey-fans.com staff

Midfielder Ben Thompson has his eye on regaining his midfield starting spot after impressing as a sub against Gillingham.

The on-loan Millwall man breathed new life into the Blues after the break although couldn't help them turn around a 2-0 deficit.

Thompson is clear that he wants to be starting games, and he would appear to have a good chance of doing so when Kenny Jackett takes his side to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

The midfield dynamo told the club website: 'I thought I did well in my first few games, but there will always be changes in football and Closey’s been brilliant since he came into the team.

'When I get my chance I’m going to try to take it because I want as many minutes as possible — that’s why I came here.'

Thompson wants to see the squad put their first league defeat behind them sharpish.

He told the website: 'You’re not going to win every game and it’s about maintaining consistently good form over the whole season. We’re still at the top of the league and we want to stay there — there’s no reason why this team can’t do that.

'The quality in the changing room is second to none, so we have to get over this and look ahead to two games next week.'
