Keeper knows first step towards more Pompey wins

Pompey are out to record their first home win in four when Fleetwood visit this weekend - and keeper Craig MacGillivray is out to help them do it by keeping a clean sheet.

Despite Pompey's form, which has taken them to the top of the table, they have had relatively few of them so far this season.

The former Shrewsbury stopper knows more shutouts will mean more wins and wants to play his part in achieving them.

You have go back to September 1 to find Pompey's last League One home win, with Shrewbury, Wycombe and Gillingham all having prevented Pompey winning in front of their own fans since.

MacGillivray told the club website: 'We have looked pretty solid in the past few games and it just seems that very good goals keep getting scored against us. I was annoyed by the one at Wimbledon because their lad isn’t known for getting them from outside the box and he hit it with his weak foot!

'There are little things we can obviously do to try to prevent that from happening, but it just is what it is. We’re working hard and still conceding a minimal amount, while the most important thing is that we’re winning games.'

MacGillivray believes Fleetwood will present Pompey with a stiff test and said: 'They’ve won the last two in the league, have beaten Doncaster and only conceded two goals away from home this season. It’s another side that are doing very well and they’re currently just outside the play-offs, so it’s going to be tough.

'Everyone knows about the likes of Paddy Madden and Ched Evans up front, but we’re looking forward to that test. We’ll have to make sure that we’re bang at it on Saturday if we want to come away with all three points.

'We’re just over a quarter of the way through the season and there’s still a long way to go, so we’re just taking it one game at a time.'

Pompey are without Andre Green, David Wheeler and Danny Rose but Ronan Curtis is back following international duty with Ireland.
