Away to a side in play-off places - and Pompey not content with point
Monday, 29th Oct 2018 21:33 by pompey-fans.com staff

Kenny Jackett says disappointment at a 1-1 draw away to the team in fourth place is a measure of how far Pompey have come.

Most in blue were a little downcast that Pompey didn't leave the Wham Stadium with all three points after taking a second-half lead through Oli Hawkins but failing to hold on to it for long.

Jackett told the Pompey website: 'We’re always looking to win and we’re disappointed to come away with just a draw, which shows you how far we’ve come. For 20-30 minutes we played really well and probably needed to score during that period, especially with the strong wind.

'There’s mixed feelings because you really need to score when you’re on top if you want to be dominant. In terms of our overall play and territory we managed to capitalise on that, but ultimately didn’t get a goal.

'It looked a penalty for me, but then it was a fantastic save from Craig to make up for his mistake. It was excellent. We were on top at the start of the second half, looked strong and obviously went ahead, only to give a goal away pretty soon afterwards.

'That was frustrating and then the game became very scrappy and the wind meant it was far easier for them to put the ball in our box.'

Pompey are on the road again on Saturday as they head to Bradford, who are bottom of the table and whose manager has issued an apology to fans for recent performances.

And in fact it looks like being a while before the Blues play in front of their own fans again. The scheduled home fixture with Charlton on November 17 because the Addicks will be hit by international commitments.

That leaves November 27 as the Blues' next home date - unless they are held to an FA Cup draw with Maidenhead.
