Pompey keep finding ways to win - but can they do it again at Norwich?
Monday, 3rd Dec 2018 20:47 by pompey-fans.com staff

It's another away draw for Pompey in the FA Cup - and it's a tough one. They'll visit Championship leaders Norwich in the third round.

The match - to be played on the weekend of January 5-6 - will pit a side currently top of the Championship with current League One leaders Pompey, though either could have been deposed since then.

The draw comes after a Pompey performance some way off their best of the season proved enough to earn a 1-0 win at Rochdale in the second round.

Boss Kenny Jackett was happy to get through and avoid a replay, telling the club website: 'We played them at the end of last season and have already met once this term, so both sides know a lot about each other.

'It was a case of cancelling each other out to some extent — I felt we had the better of the first half and they had the better of the second. It’s important not to underestimate anyone and we know Rochdale are a very good side with a top manager, so they were always going to make it tough for us.

'Our keeper made some vital saves at key moments, but that’s what he’s there for and in the end, we’re the ones who have hit the target. I’m delighted with the result and that we found a way to win, which is something we’ve been able to do a lot this season.

'You don’t really want a replay — especially with the schedule we’ve got — but if we’d have needed one, then we would have dealt with that.'

Pompey are expected to make numerous changes for the Checkatrade Trophy tie with Arsenal under-21s at Fratton Park on Tuesday night.

Pompey: MacGillivray; N.Thompson, Whatmough, Clarke, Brown; B.Thompson, Close; Lowe (Green 76), Evans (Pitman 72), Curtis; Hawkins. Subs not used: McGee, Walkes, Burgess, Haunstrup, Rose.

Referee: Seb Stockbridge

Attendance: 2,555 (599 Pompey fans)
