Sad case of same again for Pompey as Gills beat them again
Thursday, 27th Dec 2018 21:47 by pompey-fans.com staff

Kenny Jackett had a strong feeling of deja vu after seeing Pompey lose to Gillingham at Priestfield - feeling it had many similarities to the Gills' win at Fratton in October.

Goals by Josh Parker and Callum Reilly, the second from the spot, gave Steve Lovell's team their second 2-0 victory over the Blues this season, remarkable given that Pompey have only lost one other league game.

Jackett felt his players had not done enough with their domination of possession and told the Pompey website: 'We dominated the game and looked in control — it was similar to the other league match with them this season. There were three corners for us in the first 10 minutes and a couple of wide free-kicks not long after that.

'But it always a blue-shirted player that got there and then in the second half, when we were trying to get back into it, there were numerous crossing opportunities. Gillingham again looked better in their box, though, and we just couldn’t find a way through to get a shot away.

'It was an excellent header from Parker for them, while we couldn’t find one at the other end, which was frustrating. There haven’t been many games this season where we haven’t been able to score, but our opponents defended their area excellently.

'It was a similar pattern whatever combinations we used. We were probing in and around their box, although didn’t do enough with the ball.'

Parker headed the opener on 43 minutes when he met Elliott List's cross and the Gills wrapped it up through Reilly's penalty when List was fouled in the box by Jack Whatmough.
