Pompey top? Don't look - at least not for too long

Tom Naylor is delighted Pompey have come out of the festive period with another nine points to their name - but will not be spending too long admiring the league table.

The midfielder said the Blues could be content with winning three of the last four games, but warned they still had a long second half of the season ahead of them with hard work to do.

Speaking after Wimbledon became their latest victims, losing 2-1 at Fratton Park, Naylor told www.portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'We’ve played a lot of games in a short space of time, but we all know what the Christmas period is like. You have to prepare your body and be mentally right to deal with it — and we took nine points from 12, which is a decent return.

'The position we’re in is good, although you can’t spend too much time looking at the table with so many games remaining. It’s important to just keep on picking up points as we have been doing and then see where we are around April.'

Pompey now take a break from league action - while one or two key man may get a break from the pitch.

They go to Norwich in the FA Cup on Saturday then visit Southend in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday, with Kenny Jackett almost certainly considering making one or two changes to his line-up for both games - and probably more for the latter game.
