Pompey have so many cup games coming at them at the moment they might just need reminding which division of the Football League they're in before they head to Luton on Tuesday night.

Their progress to the semi-finals of the Checkatrade Trophy and an FA Cup fourth-round draw with QPR have taken up much of their time of late, not to mention a looming transfer deadline day and the arrival today on loan of striker Omar Bogle.

But the reason for the season remains the same - forget cups, Pompey are rather keen to secure promotion from League One - and the visit to Kenilworth Road is as big a game as you could wish for with that aim in mind.

It's first v second after the Hatters hopped to the top on Saturday by beating Southend on a day when the Blues were being distracted their own campaign by the FA Cup.

Pompey have recruited Bogle from Cardiff today and he seems likely to make his debut at Luton, either from the start or on the bench. He is seen as playing a role similar to that of Oli Hawkins, who the Blues have missed in recent weeks.

Assistant boss Joe Gallen says the Luton trip is a game to relish. He told the club website: “We’ve been top for so long and I didn’t quite know what that meant because it’s where you a'e on May 4 that really counts.

'I think the people at this club understand that because of what happened here just a couple of years ago. There’s no pressure — we’re just excited. We get this one out the way, then we play Doncaster, then the replay. I like the fact that we’re all in this together and we’ll see where it ends up.

'A lot of confidence was flying around the dressing room after the QPR game and we want to take that into these league fixtures. We’re very excited about the rest of the season and to still be involved in three competitions is very good going.

'The players, manager and supporters have all been fantastic and we’ve got big game after big game, which is what we’re all here for.'

Bogle told the club site he was delighted to have a chance to impress at Pompey: 'Whenever I’m playing, I will always back myself to score goals — that’s never even been a question for me. I know a few players who have been at Pompey before and they tell me how crazy the crowds are, so I’m looking forward to it.'
