Pompey made it four new signings in four days when they added James Vaughan and Viv Solomon-Otabor to the squad on a busy transfer deadline day.
The duo are added to Omar Bogle and Lloyd Isgrove and give Kenny Jackett plenty of attacking options for the remainder of the season.
Striker Vaughan, 30, made his name at Everton and has also played for Norwich, Huddersfield, Birmingham, Bury, Sunderland and Wigan - from where the Blues have snapped him up.
Jackett told the website: 'James is an experienced centre-forward and has been excellent for clubs for a number of years – we’re delighted to bring him here. He’ll bring physicality to our front line between now and the end of the season, which is something we’ve lacked at times.'
Vaughan told the website: 'It’s been a bit of a whirlwind 24 hours for me, but as son as I got the call, it was something I had my eye on. There were a few lads at Wigan who used to be here and every one of them had good words to say about Pompey.'
And just when it seemed that was that as far as Pompey's deadline day work was concerned, another new man arrived on loan - 23-year-old Birmingham winger Solomon-Otabor.
Jackett said of him: 'He’s an exciting young player who can be used on either side and impressed at this level with Blackpool last season. But he’s been a bit frustrated at Birmingham and that’s because of the standard of wingers they have at the club.'
Now fans will wait to see which of the new arrivals - who for this window also include midfield duo Bryn Morris and Andy Cannon - will feature at home to Doncaster on Saturday.
